Come experience our exclusive tasting events

Wines are like people. Some are perfect but boring, some are precocious but fail to live up to their promise, and some may be flawed, but the way they develop is endlessly fascinating.
Michael Broadbent

Academie du Vin in partnership with the High Commission of Canada invites you to a Canadian Walkaround Tasting…

The Academie du Vin in partnership with the High Commission of Canada invites you to join us in the Club on Wednesday 11th May, as we explore one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world.

To give Members a little background on Canada as a wine-making region, during the first half of the twentieth century, the temperance movement and the demand for fortified and sweet wines hindered the development of a quality table wine industry.

It was during the 60’s that this demand shifted from sweet and fortified wines to drier and low alcohol wines. There was significant growth and development within the Canadian wine industry during this time, with access to better grape varieties, disease-resistant clones and in-depth viticulture research.

We very much look forward to welcoming you to what will be a fascinating evening of a whole host of fantastic Canadian expressions.

In 1983, Bartholomew Broadbent, then based in Toronto representing the Symington Family Ports in Canada, opened a branch of L’Academie du Vin, the Paris wine school that Steven Spurrier had founded a decade earlier based on the teachings of his acknowledged mentor, Michael Broadbent.

In 1986, with Bartholomew moving to San Francisco, the management of L’Academie was taken over by wine lover, businessman and 67 Pall Mall Member, Marc Nadeau. Marc has since been actively involved in nurturing Canada’s position on the global wine stage and has introduced many foreign winemakers, wine lovers and personalities to the Niagara, Prince Edward County, Nova Scotia and Okanagan Valley regions.
